NAD+ FAQS
NAD+ Frequently Asked Questions
Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD+) is a central metabolic coenzyme/cosubstrate involved in cellular energy metabolism and energy production. It not only plays an important role in oxidation-reduction reactions involved in energy production but also acts as a signaling molecule in the cell. converting nutrients into cellular energy. NAD+ has been found to play many important roles in promoting health and prolonging lifespan.
- Anti-aging: Restoring depleted NAD+ levels may slow or even reverse some aspects of aging and also delay the progression of age-related diseases.
- Sleep health: NAD+ is connected to circadian rhythms. Balancing this cofactor may help you restore normal sleep cycles and hunger patterns.
- Addiction management: Sirtuins (NAD+ dependent enzymes) protect against oxidative stress, which is linked to cravings for substances like opioids, alcohol, and tobacco.
- Cancer prevention: NAD+ may help your cells repair DNA, potentially reducing the persistence of cancer-causing mutations.
- Heart health: High levels of NAD+ may help reduce stiffness in the aorta, lowering systolic blood pressure in adults at risk of heart disease.
- Muscle function: NAD+ may promote healthy muscle aging, improving muscle function and strength.
- Focus and concentration: Increasing your ratio of NAD+ to NADH (reduced NAD) may protect brain cells from free radicals and enhance cognitive processing.
- Cell death prevention: NAD+ treatment may prevent cell death and energy failure caused by traumatic brain injury (TBI). It has also been shown to stimulate cell regeneration.
Oral NAD+ is poorly absorbed and is not a viable option. Supplements of precursors to NAD+, however, are an option and recommended. These include Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN) and Resveratrol and they work synergistically, have shown benefits and are generally recommended. We recommend you take the oral supplements in conjuction with your infusion in order to help maintain your natural NAD levels. . With IV NAD+ however you are able to achieve much higher plasma concentrations of NAD+ that would not be possible with oral supplementation alone. IV therapy allows you to completely bypass gastric absorption and liver first pass metabolism. In sum, oral supplements are believed to augment the effect of your IV treatment and are recommended
Unfortunately NAD+ levels naturally decline with age. The natural amount of NAD occurring in the body can be depleted or its loss accelerated by several reasons such as drug and alcohol abuse, PTSD, anxiety, depression, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Neurodegenerative diseases and simply aging. Emerging evidence demonstrates that elevation of NAD levels may slow or possibly even reverse several aspects of aging and delay the progression of age-related diseases. Without enough NAD+, the body may struggle to complete key biological processes, such as converting food into cellular energy, repairing damaged DNA, protecting cells from disease, and resetting the body’s internal clock. Low levels of NAD are associated with a decrease in energy, strength and endurance and an risk of heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease and accelerated decline.
NAD+ is not a psychoactive substance and therefore no specific requirements for what you can or cannot do before NAD+ treatment. You can go about your day-to-day activities as usual. You can also return to work after the session if you wish. You do not need a driver and can drive yourself home after your infusion.
Yes. Short term data demonstrates safety however there is no data available for long term use. NAD+ occurs naturally throughout the body.
During the infusion, NAD+ can cause mild to moderate side effects such as nausea, headaches, cramping, chest tightness, anxiety, body warmth and muscle fatigue. Most of these side effects can be relieved by slowing the IV drip rate. We will help you find a drip rate that works well for you as these side effects tend to be patient-specific. Once slowed the side effects tend to resolve within seconds.
As the FDA has not approved NAD+ it is unlikely your insurance company will cover its treatment. We will gladly provide you with a superbill upon request.
Anyone who is looking for more energy, emotional wellness, restored health and vigor is a candidate for NAD+ therapy. Whether you’re a professional athlete looking to improve your performance naturally, a student seeking to improve your memory, an individual struggling with addiction or someone who simply wants to combat fatigue and aging, NAD+ therapy may be able to help.
As NAD+ is not psychoactive there are no restrictions in terms of driving yourself or what you are allowed to eat beforehand.
Your initial phone consultation will be free. The fee for the infusion will depend on the dose and if you purchase a package series.
